Pre-filled and refillable pod kits are designed to be simple, but correct use can help prevent leaks, poor flavour and charging problems.
This guide covers everyday pod-kit use without advanced tanks, mod kits or replaceable coil systems.
Using a pre-filled pod kit
- Charge the device using the supplied or approved charger
- Remove the pod from its packaging
- Check that the pod is compatible with the device
- Insert the pod firmly
- Remove any protective seals or plugs
- Allow the device to sit briefly if the manufacturer instructs you to do so
- Inhale gently or use the button, depending on the design
Do not use a pod that is cracked, leaking or visibly damaged.
Replacing a pre-filled pod
Replace the pod when:
- It is empty
- Flavour becomes unpleasant
- Vapour reduces noticeably
- The pod leaks
- The device no longer recognises it
- The pod is damaged
Dispose of used pods through an appropriate vape or electrical recycling route.
Filling a refillable pod
- Remove the pod if the instructions require it
- Open the filling port
- Use compatible e-liquid
- Keep liquid away from the central airflow opening
- Fill without exceeding the pod’s maximum level
- Close the filling port securely
- Let the pod stand for the time stated in the instructions before use
Never fill a pod with a liquid that is unsuitable for the device.
Replacing a refillable pod
A refillable pod does not normally need to be replaced after every refill. Replace it when performance has deteriorated or the pod is damaged. Common signs include:
- Persistent burnt or unpleasant taste
- Continued leaking
- Cracks
- Loose connection
- Reduced flavour
- Gurgling that does not resolve
- Poor vapour production
Use the correct replacement pod for your specific device.
Preventing leaks
To reduce leaking:
- Do not overfill the pod
- Close the filling port properly
- Keep the device upright where possible
- Avoid leaving it in direct heat
- Do not use cracked pods
- Clean the device connection regularly
- Replace worn pod seals
- Do not blow forcefully through the mouthpiece
A small amount of condensation can be normal, but repeated leaking should be investigated.
Avoiding a dry or burnt taste
A burnt taste may occur if a refillable pod is used before the e-liquid has properly saturated the internal heating element or if the pod is old. Try:
- Waiting after filling a new pod
- Keeping the pod adequately filled
- Taking gentler puffs
- Avoiding continuous use without breaks
- Replacing the pod when flavour does not improve
If a pre-filled pod tastes burnt immediately, stop using it and contact the retailer.
Charging safely
Electrical Safety First recommends using the supplied charger, avoiding overnight charging, checking the device while it charges and unplugging it when fully charged.
Also:
- Charge on a flat, non-flammable surface
- Keep the charger dry
- Do not charge a damaged device
- Do not use a damaged cable
- Keep the device away from children and pets
- Do not leave it charging under bedding or clothing
Storing e-liquid
For refillable pod users, store e-liquid:
- In its original container
- With the cap tightly closed
- Away from children and pets
- Away from food and drink
- Away from high heat and direct sunlight
Recycling pods and devices
Vapes and pods should not be placed in household rubbish or standard recycling bins. Return them through a retailer take-back service or an appropriate electrical recycling facility. Retailers selling vapes must provide customers with a way to return used vape products for recycling.
Troubleshooting table
| Problem | Possible cause | What to try |
|---|---|---|
| No vapour | Flat battery or poor pod connection | Charge the device and refit the pod |
| Leaking | Overfilling or damaged pod | Wipe the connection and replace the pod if necessary |
| Burnt taste | Old pod or insufficient saturation | Let a new pod stand and replace it if needed |
| Gurgling | Excess liquid in the airflow path | Remove the pod and wipe the connection carefully |
| Weak flavour | Pod nearing the end of its life | Replace the pre-filled or refillable pod |
| Device not charging | Cable, port or battery fault | Stop using damaged equipment and contact support |
